Tree Planting at Kaptagat North Rift, Kenya

Hon. Mohamed Elmi CAS Ministry of Environment and Forestry launched a bamboo demonstration site at Kaptagat forest block in the North Rift Region on 18th July, 2019.
Dr. Sammy Letema, Chairman KEFRI Board of Directors, Dr. Joshua Cheboiwo Director KEFRI, H. E Jackson Mandago Governor Uasin Gishu County, H. E. Alex Tolgos Governor Elgeyo Marakwet County, H.E. Stephen Sang Governor Nandi County were also in attendance at the event.

KEFRI, through Rift Valley Eco-region Research Programme, donated 100 bamboo seedlings for the planting exercise which saw a total of 30,000 assorted indigenous trees planted.
The event gave KEFRI the opportunity to hold discussions with different universities including, Moi University and University of Eldoret on ways to partner in research and capacity building so as to achieve 10 percent tree cover in the country.
The CAS tasked KEFRI to provide viable seeds and seedlings, engage in community capacity building, monitor tree development and empower communities in the region to establish tree nurseries.
