Inauguration of KEFRI 10th Board of Directors on 10th July, 2019
TThe Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment and Forestry Mr. Keriako Tobiko inaugurated the 10th KEFRI Board of Directors, whose three years term commenced 1st June, 2019.
The CS through Gazette Notice No.56, 1809/4374 appointed Dr. Sammy Letema as the Non-Executive Chairperson, re-appointed Mr. Kevin Kariuki, Ms. Maureen Mwangovya, Ms. Margaret Maimba, Mr. Felix Ateng, Mr. Henry Obino, and Mr. Chrislogus Makhoha as Board members. Dr. Anthony Gitambu, Dr. Ali Mohamud Mohamed,Ms Naomi Apali, and Mr. Julius Kamau were appointed as new members .
Speaking during the inauguration at KEFRI headquarters on 10th July, 2019, the CS congratulated the newly appointed Board members emphasizing that their appointment has come at an opportune time as the Institute targets to increase seed production from 16 metric tonnes to 24 metric tonnes.
“This intervention will increase production of quality seeds and seedlings ensuring that the country attains 10 percent forest cover by 2022”, he said.
He further called on Treasury to allocate sufficient funds to KEFRI and other agencies that are responsible for environmental conservation in a bid to realize the government’s Big 4 Agenda.
The previous Board, whose term ended on 30th June, 2019 was credited with good governance, strengthening institutional infrastructure, development of policies and technologies with positive impact on tree cover and livelihood.
