The Rift Valley Eco-Region Research Programme (RVERP)

RVERP

RVERP, is mandated to undertake research in forestry and allied natural resources focusing mainly on; water towers (Mau Complex, Mt. Elgon and Cherangany), woodlands, and farmlands.

The Programme implements its research and development activities in the following thematic areas: Forest Productivity and Improvement; Biodiversity and Environment Management;Forest Products Development; Socio-Economics, Policy and Governance; and Technical Support Services.

Location

RVERP headquarters is situated in Londiani, 3 km from Londiani Junction off Nakuru-Kericho highway and next to Kenya Forestry College. The programme has three sub-centres namely: Turkana Sub-centre , located in Lodwar Town, Baringo Sub-centre is 2 km from Marigat town along Marigat –Perrkera Scheme, and Turbo Sub-centre is 1 km from Turbo-Soi junction off Eldoret-Webuye road.

Geographical Coverage

RVERP covers eleven Counties namely; Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kericho, Nandi, Narok, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu and West Pokot. The eco-region also partially covers; Kajiado, Kakamega, Samburu and Laikipia Counties.

Disseminated various technologies and information on forestry through open and field days, agricultural shows, conferences and workshops, print and electronic media

Trained stakeholders in various aspects of forestry such as: rehabilitation of degraded natural forests, rangelands and woodlands; nursery management; and management of invasive woody species
