KEFRI receives 13th JICA President Award
KEFRI has today been presented with 13th JICA President Award for the exemplary work, commitment and dedication in the furthering the ideals of JICA International cooperation. The Chief Representative, JICA kenya Office Ms. Keiko Sano presented the award and certificate to Director KEFRI Dr. Ben Chikamai in the presence of the Chief Guest -the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources Prof. Judi Wakhungu who was accompanied by the Principal Secretary Dr. Margaret Mwakima. KEFRI has been selected as this year’s laureate along with 5 other organizations, 9 projects, and 26 individuals from all over the world. Kenya and Malawi were the only two countries in Africa to have been nominated for this award. The long-standing collaboration between KEFRI and JICA in forestry activities in Kenya spanning 31 years has developed beneficial research work and forestry technologies with impact, thus contributing significantly towards achieving the envisaged 10 percent forest cover as stipulated in Kenya’s Constitution 2010 and Medium Terms Plans of Vision 2030.
